LIVING ROOM

Substantial Family Residence

The originally 5,000 square foot property was historically a family residence in 1860, then served as a private hospital in the 20’s and subsequently a serviceman’s club in the 60’s before falling into disrepair. The entire property had to be stripped back to rafters and brickwork before the transformation into a 10,000 square foot family home could begin. The refurbishment was done sympathetically to the age of the building, down to the smallest architectural detail. Exterior walls were built with old stock bricks and new bricks were hand tinted on site. Both the Welsh Slate roof tiles and sandstone paving in the landscaped garden are true to the original materials used. The interior architecture was adapted to create flow and uniformity throughout the property and accommodate seven double bedrooms, five with en suite bathrooms, and a master suite with his and hers dressing rooms. Spanning over five floors, all serviced by a lift, the lower ground floor boasts a temperature-controlled wine cellar, gym, cinema and expansive family kitchen with informal dining and lounge. A wonderful balance has been struck between the old and new, radically transforming the house into an elegant home perfectly suited to modern living.
