If you are planning to refresh your interior décor in the coming year, it is interesting to know what the latest trends will be. The general mood seems to be one of building on the priorities of 2021, such as nature, home working, and sustainable materials, rather than a dramatic sea change. Here’s a roundup of what some of the biggest designers are saying.

A move away from mass produced goods

Speaking to Country Living, interiors expert Chloe Jonason said that sustainability will emerge as the driving force in style and design next year. As the effects of climate change become more shockingly apparent every year, the consumer shift towards vintage goods and reclaimed materials will continue to grow.

Joanson predicts that fabrics will be sourced from companies who can prove their sustainable credentials, and who prioritise handmade goods that are of outstanding quality, rather than cheaper mass-produced items.

More defined home working spaces

Many of us made do with working from the kitchen table during 2021. However, as the majority of companies now offer some form of hybrid work arrangement, people will seek better solutions.

There has been a rush to move to larger properties or to define new zones in the home, in order to create a purposeful office space. Throughout 2022, this shift will continue, as people invest in good quality desks, ergonomic chairs, and convenient storage units to make a comfortable and well-ordered working area within the home.

Living room bars

Meanwhile, designers are predicting a rise in bespoke drinks bars, House Beautiful reports. This is again a continuation of the ‘make do’ methods we all had to adopt during the first half of 2021, when all hospitality venues were closed, and people began to drink at home more often. Mirrored bar areas are a great way to show off a fine glass collection, too.
