3 - KITCHEN SUBSTANTIAL FAMILY RESIDENCE

Homeowners looking to update their kitchens this year should think bold colours, marble worktops and smart appliances, as these are some of the biggest trends dominating kitchen interior design in 2022.

  • Be brave and bold with colour

Cream country kitchens or stark white modern ones are no longer en vogue, as people are experimenting more with colours this season.

LA-based designer Oliver M Furth told Elle Décor: “The all-white kitchen is out… go for something bolder – even a shade or two stronger can bring depth and interest.”

He suggested deep colours for cabinets, such as peacock blue, while other jewel shades like greens and metallics will also be incredibly popular.

  • Add character with patterned floor tiles

Floor tiles should no longer be an afterthought, and the time for neutral white or grey flooring has gone. Now, people are interested in opting for elaborate patterns, as a way to add character to their dining and cooking space.

As well as intricately detailed tiles, traditional wooden flooring is becoming a popular choice for kitchens again.

Home Building says: “Parquet and herringbone flooring is hot news in homes right now – a trend that is set to continue into next year.”

It was noted this type of flooring “adds texture and warmth to even contemporary schemes”.

  • Add luxury look with marble features

Marble worktops have featured in kitchens for decades, and they are, once again, back on trend.

Homeowners love marble as it exudes luxury and adds a special finishing touch to a newly decorated kitchen. Marble is also relatively easy to look after, despite its reputation for being high maintenance.

It simply needs to be wiped down daily with a soft cloth and soapy water, and spills have to be mopped up at the earliest opportunity to prevent them from discolouring the stone. Though stubborn stains will require more work to get rid of, it is a good idea to use a sealant after it is first installed, as this maintains its quality for as long as possible.

  • Update with smart technology

Technology seems to develop faster than we can keep up with it, which is why it is a good idea to update your new kitchen with the latest modern features, so it remains relevant in years to come.

Charging points, USB connections and boiling water taps (which now offer chilled and filtered water too) are all useful features to have.

There are even fridges that can order shopping, ovens that can carry out recipes, and large touchscreen devices that allow video chatting; sharing pictures on social media, access to recipes, music or movies; and watching your food cook while away from the stove.

  • Hide your cupboards

Everyone wants to give the impression they have a spotless home, free of clutter and mess, which is why the invisible kitchen is becoming a big trend.

The secret is clever storage solutions to hide appliances, tableware, and pots and pans. This works by creating cabinetry that is more like sideboards found in living rooms, which reveal all your dishes, glasses and mugs or favourite foods, when open.

Hidden cupboards are also great at concealing coffee and tea-making zones. Instead of having your kettle, toaster, coffee machine and all your favourite jams, teas and drinks on the countertop, they can be hidden in a cupboard on top of your worktop, obscured by two tall doors. This creates more cooking space when you need to prepare food, while also allowing you to hide all the clutter when guests come round.
