With just under a week until Christmas, plenty of people will be doing their festive shopping and for some, that may include things for the house to give it a bit of a new look.

Others, however, might want to carry out a more fundamental revamp of their interior and as the end of 2021 nears, this could be a great resolution for 2022, especially as the one about giving up chocolate never works.

For those wondering what the latest fashions are in interiors, the crystal balls are now well and truly out, although, of course, not all say quite the same. Even so, if you are interested in bedroom interior design or a new kitchen, there is lots of food for thought.

Architecture Lab has predicted that a key feature of 2022 will be ongoing efforts by people to provide attractive backdrops in the rooms where they conduct online calls. Anyone who has been on such calls with others working from home will no doubt have noticed what stands behind the people at the other end, be it the décor, the furnishings or even the contents of the bookshelf.

Other adjustments include changing the furnishings and interior spaces to create a clear workspace, which is likely to be particularly popular now working from home is likely to become a norm for many that outlasts the pandemic.

At the same time, it forecasted homes will be more colourful, as people will be spending more time in them and need a pleasant environment to live in.

Kate Wiltshire Design offered some slightly different ideas. She suggested an emphasis on more natural tones and hues, while rather than creating niche spaces to work in, everything will be opened up with more open-plan design.

Perhaps there will be no one dominant style in 2022. It is also harder to predict what life will be like as the pandemic rumbles on, so perhaps all bets are off on what our lifestyles will be and how this affects our homes.
