It’s always interesting when interior design trends are inspired by TV and cinema, as you never know quite what’s going to crop up and what’s going to be popular.

We saw a huge spike in interest in 1970s and retro decor after The Queen’s Gambit mini series hit the small screen – and it seems that we’re about to see a similar surge in Regency period style, thanks to how popular Netflix drama Bridgerton is now proving to be.

The term ‘Regencycore’ is already being bandied about and you’re sure to hear it a lot more frequently over the coming months if you’re interested in interior design and home decor, so it could be worth checking out to see if you like the aesthetic for your own property.

The look is a maximalist, opulent and luxurious one, so don’t be afraid to go big and bold, mixing colours and patterns, as well as fabrics and other materials to really bring your rooms to life.

The Regency period is any time between 1811 and 1820, towards the end of the Georgian era – so you’ll need to stock up on antiques galore to build this kind of interior style. Think imposing four-poster beds (which are a new trend in their own right, so that’s fortuitous!), antique mirror, candelabras, damask wallpaper and lots more.

It might be worth starting small and bringing in a few touches here and there, so you can see how the style works with the rest of your home decor. Done well, Regencycore can work perfectly alongside more contemporary ideas, shapes and textures – and you’re sure to have a great time putting mood boards together.
